Asparagus

Our asparagus is now growing well. Fooled by the glorious March weather it made a very early appearance, only to stand still in April, cold wet and miserable. Well its still wet but at least its warmer now. Our asparagus is £6.99/kg and on sale in bunches that weigh between 200gm and 350gm approximately £1.50 – £2.50.

Duck Eggs

We are really pleased to have free range duck eggs back in stock after a very long absence. Our duck eggs are supplied by Simon Bailey who farms at nearby Bitteswell. Simon suffered a major head injury in an unfortunate agricultural accident but is now well on the way to recovery.

Our Rhubarb

We have the first of our own fresh rhubarb on sale in the farm shop. Rhubarb is the first crop of the new growing season. Rhubarb is not only a great source of Vitamin A and C, but also potassium. Rhubarb is used in wide variety of dishes and is very easy to grow if you fancy trying we also sell rhubarb plants. Cooking rhubarb is very easy. For every 100g of rhubarb you will need 30g of sugar. Cut the stalks into pieces 2 – 3cm, place in a saucepan with the sugar and add a little water – just enough to cover the pieces. Cover the saucepan with the lid and cook over a low heat for about 12 minutes. Stir the content occasionally to prevent sticking. The rhubarb is done when those rhubarb strings are obvious in the mixture and the whole mixture becomes mushy. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool. Serve with custard.
