Entry Fee: By following the practice of many other pyo’s we are asking for a small prepayment of £2 per head. Children under 5yrs old will be charged £1, babies go free.
Sadly over the years our pick and pay has been abused. Too many large groups of people have entered the picking field with the sole intention of eating as much fruit as possible and not paying. The admission tackles this and is levied in such a way that genuine fruit pickers are not penalised.
THIS IS HOW IT WORKS
Example A family of four adults will pay an £8 admission when they pick up their punnets – that’s £2 for everyone entering the picking area. If £10 worth of fruit is picked (which is a little under 5lbs of strawberries) on return to the shop, the balance of £2 will be due. If however they only pick £6 worth of fruit then no further payment will be required, but no refund will be given.
Providing care is taken during the picking process freshly picked strawberries will keep in the fridge for 4 or 5 days.
Containers – are provided but not free of charge. The container weight is included when the fruit is weighed at the till.
If you do not wish to pay for our container please bring your own container but make sure that the container has been pre-weighed and marked with a weight in grams (our scales are metric) so that the container can be deducted from the final charge.
We provide 2 sorts of container:
A clear recyclable plastic punnet that will hold approximately 1kg of fruit. The container will cost approximately 6p.
A green handled basket that will hold approximately 2.5kg of fruit. The container will cost approximately 60p.
Quantities – Have a rough idea of the quantity of fruit you want to buy. Select the appropriate containers and supervise children to prevent over picking. We do expect you to pay for fruit that you have picked.
Footwear – Wear sensible shoes the ground in the field is uneven. If we have had a lot of rain please bring waterproof footwear.
Customer etiquette – Sampling is permitted but if you abuse this you will be asked to leave.
No picnicking in the picking area.
No dogs in the picking area.
Supervise children fully.
Do not run in the picking area.
When stepping over strawberry beds please do not step in the middle of the row. Your feet damage the crop.
Please note last entry to the pick your own is 30 minutes before the shop closes. Please leave yourselves plenty of time to pick enough fruit and veg to cover the cost of the admission prepayment.
